Collaborative project: Novel protein-rich rapeseed feed – Upscaling of an innovative process concept for processing rapeseed for the production of more sustainable feed mixtures and their use in animal nutrition - Subproject A (Napf)

Project

Project code: 281C703A21
Contract period: 01.04.2023 - 31.03.2026
Budget: 719,669 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: climate protection, rape seed, animal feed, poultry, alternative protein sources, protein feed

A new, gentle process for processing rapeseed, the EthaNa-process, is to be further developed and optimized on a pilot scale. In consequence, development work will be carried out towards implementing a robust process leading to the production of sufficien amounts of rapeseed concentrate. In this way, the profitability of the EthaNa-process is evaluated and its competitiveness compared to other processes is estimated. The rapeseed concentrate is used in the production of animal feed, which is tested and evaluated for their suitability in feed technology tests and in feeding trials on animals. Furthermore, other products, such as the resulting rapeseed oil, dissolved fatty acids or the separated rapeseed hulls, are analyzed and examined for possible marketing or application in order to fully estimate the added value of the EthaNa-process.
