The study aims to i) evaluate the contribution of orphan crops to sustainable and healthy traditional and mixed food systems, ii) evaluate farmers’ willingness to uptake the production of the selected orphan crops and iii) investigate the profitability along the selected orphan crop value chain. Or-Crop targets this knowledge gap by assessing the role that orphan crops play in the face of climate change, particularly in marginal production areas. More specifically, the review seeks to identify the potential of orphan crops to contribute to sustainable and healthy food systems, genetic resources for climate change adaptation, crop enhancement and environmental sustainability in Manyoni District, specifically in the Itigi division and the surrounding villages.
