Activities of the initiation phase will be accomplished within five months from mid-April until mid-September 2023. Joint field visits of the German coordinator (University of Kassel) and the principal investigator (PI) and Co-PI from the University of Addis Ababa are planned to Borana and Kereyu areas. They serve the purposes of preparing the exploratory study scheduled for May / June 2023, an assessment of the suitability of the anticipated study regions for carrying out the suggested research and to discuss the planned project with representatives of regional governments and community members in the anticipated study areas. PRA and key informant interviews will be conducted and the result of preliminary data analysis will be documented. On-site and online meetings with the different partners in Ethiopia and Germany and monthly meetings will be realized (via zoom) to work on the full application, especially the specification of the research questions, survey tools and methods and to prepare the detailed budget and work plan on a timeline in close cooperation with national stakeholders, main actors of the camel value chain and representatives of study households.
