Development of an alternative method for weed control in orchards and vineyards using a sprayable mulch material made from renewable raw materials to practice suitability (ABOWPrax)
Project
Project code: G2/N/22/08
Contract period: 01.01.2023
- 31.12.2025
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is to further develop an alternative method of weed control using a sprayable and biodegradable mulch material based on renewable raw materials as a substitute for herbicides in orchards and vineyards, and to make it ready for practice. The weed control is achieved by a physical barrier effect, which inhibits the germination and growth of weeds. In cooperation with an agricultural engineering company, an application device for practical use in orchards and vineyards is to be developed and tested at several locations over the period of three project years. In addition to the weed-inhibiting effect, influence on environmental factors such as biodegradability, soil moisture and nitrogen mineralization will be studied.
