Collaborative project: Innovative Data Science-based approach for health monitoring in calves and young cattle through targeted integration of practically relevant digital data and establishment of novel benchmarking parameters - subproject A (InnoKalb)
Project
Project code: 281C803A21
Contract period: 01.09.2023
- 31.08.2026
Budget: 280,421 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: cattle, Precision livestock farming, software, App, digital world, animal welfare, prevention, animal health
The aim of the project is to explore and develop new approaches for documenting and monitoring the health of calves and young cattle through the extension of the existing FokusMobil and LKV-Rind-App apps of the LKV NRW and BW, based on data-technological innovations. This will enable the use of additional biological performance indicators as future dairy cows or fattening animals, and could contribute to a longterm increase in awareness among milk producers regarding their young animals. By combining manually, automatically, and semi-automatically collected data on the calves with historical data on milk yield, breeding, and animal health, novel analysis and benchmarking parameters will be developed within the InnoKalb tool to support decision-making in calf management. The project also aims to improve communication between livestock farms in terms of animal welfare and health, and to create approaches for cooperation models. The project consists of nine work packages and will be implemented over a three-year project period.
