FutureCrop explores new crops to meet the challenges of climate change and to create new opportunities for Bavarian Agriculture. The project investigates the cultivation and market potentials of crops that originate from warmer and drier world regions. The selected crops are not yet cultivated in Bavaria but are known to the Bavarian consumers and available at retailers. Main activities focus on the lighthouse crops groundnut, sesame, cowpea, rice and cumine while preliminary studies cover the candidate crops pearl millet, pigeon pea, mung bean, urd bean, quinoa and black cumine.
