Analysis and utilization of genetic resources for organic winter barley breeding focusing on resistance to loose smut (Ustilago nuda) - Landbauschule Dottenfelderhof e.V. (FLUGBRAND-RESIST)
Project
Project code: 2822OE192
Contract period: 01.09.2023
- 31.08.2028
Budget: 202,418 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: crop production, genetic resources, barley, plant genetic resources, plant diseases (virusus, bacteria, fungi, phytoplasma), crop protection, plant health, seed and planting material, organic farming
FLUGBRAND-RESIST aims to gain a better understanding of loose smut resistance in barley and to increase resistances to loose smut. For this purpose, adequate resistance properties must be identified from genetically diverse material and converted into elite varieties with excellent agronomic and qualitative properties in an optimized crossing approach in order to enable better protection against loose smut in agricultural practice, especially in organic farming.
