Model farms integrated crop production: Model based nitrogen fertilisation (Demonstrationsbetriebe Integrierter Pflanzenbau in Ackerbaukulturen)

Project

Project code: 2821ABS250
Contract period: 01.09.2023 - 31.08.2026
Budget: 387,463 Euro
Purpose of research: Demonstration

In this project, new and re-implemented procedures for model-based nitrogen fertilization will be introduced and tested in close cooperation with the demonstration and model project (MuD), particularly involving agricultural enterprises within the MuD network and the advisory platform ISIP e.V. The main focus is on utilizing year-specific and field-specific information and evaluating it using process-based simulation models to achieve more demand-oriented nitrogen fertilization. As an additional aspect, water supply and irrigation requirements will be quantified and made accessible on the ISIP web platform. This aims to avoid nitrogen excesses caused by excessive fertilization in situations with lower than average nitrogen requirements while ensuring sufficient yields and quality in normal to high-yield situations. Overall, this is expected to make a significant contribution to climate and groundwater protection. Rapid knowledge transfer is anticipated through the use of established fertilization concepts and already developed simulation models, as well as their implementation on the established non-commercial advisory platform ISIP and collaboration with cooperating MuD projects.
