Footrot as a chronic and highly infectious disease of the claws which is extremely painful to sheep. It is a multifactorial disease with the anaerobic bacterium Dichelobacter nodosus as the major microbial agent. The control of ovine footrot is the goal of the biological reacre agricura ® jelly. It is primarily based on microorganisms, and contains diverse bacteria (magnetotactic, phototroph, luminescent), algae, lactobacilli, molds, 5-aminolevulinic acid and a polymer. The product is environmentally sustainable. So far trials were completed to prove the tolerance. Investigations to prove the effectiveness with a small number of sheep are going on. The specific aim will be to change the jelly to a footbath so that owners of even large flocks can treat effectively. The final step will be a six months outdoor treating of 100 footrot naturally infected sheep to prove the efficacy of the new product under natural conditions.
