Collabortative project: Integrated plant management by using of wireless sensor networks - area specific irrigation monitoring of specialised crops – Subproject 3
Project
Project code: 2815306007
Contract period: 01.03.2008
- 30.06.2010
Budget: 164,418 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Due to the climatic change many agriculturally used regions are faced with longer dry periods. The goal of the project is therefore the development of an optimized irriga-tion water management system for specialised crops by the example of viniculture. Backbone of this system is a wireless sensor network for the identification of area specific soil parameters. To this end test systems based on competing wireless radio technologies will be developed and tested in extensive field applications. In order to record the relevant ground parameters simply and economically, a demonstrator for a new multi-function sensor is realized, which determines soil moisture, temperature and electrical conductivity. The main innovation is based on the measuring method of time domain reflectometry (TDR), which allows a precise measurement of soil water content, even under difficult soil conditions. The wirelessly seized data flow into an irrigation control system, whose regulation is to be optimized according to the plant production requirements.
