Food and consumer protection

Project code: BFEL-IHT-02-10
Contract period: 01.07.2002 - 30.06.2004
Purpose of research: Basic research

The aim of this project is to optimise the detection procedure for Listeria monocytogenes with the use of selective chromogenic media and molecular-biological methods (PCR) and to reduce the time of detection. By applications of new technologies, the existence of Listeria in foods should be detected early. In addition it will be attempted to obtain an overview on the occurrence of L. monocytogenes in ready-packaged products like cold salmon, sausages, delicatessen-salads and cooked-hams and to detect interconnected risks. The methods applied will be compared regarding their specificity, sensitivity, analysis-time, reliability, as well as handling and expenses.
