Concept, adapted to the practical needs of market reporting for the organic market in Germany

Project

Project code: 2809OE008
Contract period: 01.11.2009 - 31.03.2010
Budget: 32,076 Euro
Purpose of research: Public relations

A survey of the organic business sector in Germany in 2010 concerning the requirements of a praxis-oriented market report system revealed the major importance of: the reporting about quantitative market research data, the organic whole sale, consumer prices, the market development - in Germany as well as abroad - , monthly sector analysis, and the detailed analysis of foreign markets. In order to merge the currently existing manifold offerings for shortcuts about international market development the suggestion was made to jointly establish a concerted central information offer. Frequently during interviews the issue was raised that a continuous reporting about quantitative market research data for the specialized organic trade business as well as a well-grounded analysis of foreign markets are of great importance but currently not available in the quality desired. According to the results of this study it would be necessary to grant an external financing with official project funding. Without access to reference studies it is impossible for the organisations to estimate the willingness to pay for such a service as a basis for a private financing model. Access to more background information regarding the organic food market is of even greater importance for the companies. Criticized was the lack of forecasts concerning market development. Especially emphasized in this context was the need for a regularly conducted analysis of trends in consumer behaviour. The demand for price reporting for fodder, production supplements, and processing commodities was expressed as well. Additionally, interviewees suggested to found an expert team in order to bundle existing information regarding market development, and to jointly conduct a market analysis. A respective team was already founded within project time and agreed to compile a joint evaluation of the German organic food market which is annually published at the opening of the BioFach fair.
