Sociological studies about organic farming
Project
Project code: vTI-OEL-08-OEL 109
Contract period: 01.01.2008
- 01.12.2011
Purpose of research: Applied research
Organic farming claims for knowledge, professional skills and individual engagement. Most of these claims focus on environmental protection, animal welfare and sound food processing. The EU regulation 834/2007 decribe the goals of organic farming. Although it seems self-evident that organic farming is able to meet it`s self proclaimed standards and targets some research projects underscore undisputable problems.
Obviously structural problems or a fundamental lack of knowledge cannot be blamed for this. The main problems arise from management deficits. Scientific research has identified either underdeveloped managegment practices in organic farming or low levels of professional motivation and individual engagement to meet organic farming goals.
The project tries to analyse the expectation and persepectives of actor and stakeholders in a sociological manner. It will try to develop scenaries of the development of organic farming.
