Project code: 115836556
Contract period: 01.07.2009 - 30.06.2012
Purpose of research: Applied research

In the transfer project, based on eight years research in the SFB 564 (The Uplands Program) two sensor operated irrigation control units will be jointly developed with manufacturers, which will enable farmers in different agro-physical and socio-economic environments to optimize water use. The tensiometer-based irrigation control will be adapted to the uplands farmers’ needs and will take into account the high spatial variability of soil and topographic conditions. The moist-dry sensor for PRD irrigation will be developed based on TDR technology and integrated in an automatic irrigation monitoring system. It will be adapted to the requirements of lowland commercial agriculture and is aiming on a large-scale impact in reducing pressure on water resources.
