SYNBREED S3: Independent Group 'Population Genetics'
Project
Project code: 0315528I
Contract period: 01.10.2010
- 30.09.2014
Budget: 759,960 Euro
Purpose of research: Networks and research co-ordination
Within the TUM faculty of Life and Food Sciences Weihenstephan a tenure track position “Population Genetics” dedicated to genome based research on crop and livestock breeding will be established to strengthen the research cluster Synbreed. The group is expected to bridge theoretical and experimental population genetics and genomics by implementing novel molecular methods such as next-generation sequencing, statistical and stochastic methods in close collaboration with project A4. Because population and evolutionary genetics form the base for many theoretical concepts of breeding methodology the group will play a central role within the network Synbreed and strengthen it significantly by contributing methods and tools for improved selection of agricultural populations. The group will actively participate in training of young scientists within the interdisciplinary graduate program and summer schools organized by project S2.
