Collaborative project: Modification and optimization of input control variables of forced ventilated barns in livestock farming - subproject 1

Project

Project code: 2813701410
Contract period: 01.11.2010 - 30.06.2013
Budget: 7,980 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The control of fans in barns of modern livestock farming is based on various input control variables. Until now these parameters are air temperature, relative humidity, the underpressure in the barn and the concentration of carbon dioxide. Long-term studies have shown that these parameters are insufficient to comply with (1) the specifications for maximum concentrations of green house gases and toxic gases and (2) the other named physical parameters. Especially in winter exceeding the recommended range of the parameters can cause a reduced fodder uptake in combination with depressed growing/ effort. The targets of this research are the analysis of the interaction and complexity of the input control variables and the development of new control functions for the control of the ventilation in barns. The optimization of the input control variables helps to prevent pollution of the environment and makes an important contribution for a better animal health.
