Collaborative project: Breeding triticale varieties for marginal environments – a matter of the variety type? – Subproject 2
Project
Project code: 2814502410
Contract period: 01.09.2010
- 31.08.2014
Budget: 256,900 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
The main objective of the project is to compare the abiotic stress tolerance of different types of varieties (hybrids as well as intensive and extensive lines) applying innovative statistical methods.
In total 80 hybrids und 50 lines (25 intensive and 25 extensive lines) will be evaluated in field trials for time to heading, plant height, thousand kernel wheight, protein concentration, starch concentration, damages after the winter, disease resistances, and grain yield in 24 environments (nine locations and three years). Moreover, cofactors such as soil moisture, precipitation, solar irradiation will be determined. The different germplasm groups will be compared with respect to their yield stability and target environments will be identified for cultivation of triticale hybrids. Optimum design of field trials will be investigated for marginal environments using model comparisons.
