Network Animal breeding in organic farming

Project

Project code: 2802OE639F
Contract period: 01.04.2005 - 30.04.2007
Budget: 182,650 Euro
Purpose of research: Networks and research co-ordination

The aim is to network with those involved in eco-farming to the development of scientific, financial, organizational, legal support and opportunities for practical projects for the production of breeding associations and breeding companies for organic cultivation. The work plan includes initially a vulnerability assessment by expert survey, documentation of existing breeding projects, two workshops for beef, pork and chicken production, and a species-cross final workshop. In the course of the first project 02OE639 was clear that the situation of organic animal breeding for cattle, pigs and chickens is different. The action for each livestock species has been described in detail. It was noted that an independent animal breeding for organic farming - as distinguished from the established breeding associations - does not make sense. Within the wider network of construction work is therefore not an independent organization of animal breeding for organic farming methods, but establish a flexible and diverse network whose actors in different organizations (including breed associations, GEH) are active. The work begun in the areas of beef, pork and chicken production continues. In addition, the livestock species turkeys, geese, ducks and the use of broiler direction are included. It will focus on the dairy cattle, pigs and laying hens are farmed. A total of 20 working group meetings (cattle, pigs, poultry) and a cross-species-final meeting will be conducted. The results are presented and are disseminated via the Internet and trade magazines. Purpose of project coordination, the project will be accompanied by a technical advisory board.
