Differentiated impacts of environmental management of sowing and permanent grassland on food availability, feeding behavior and grazing performance and carcass maturity of steers and heifers

Project

Project code: 2803OE428
Contract period: 01.05.2004 - 30.11.2006
Budget: 71,295 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

A large proportion of organically managed grassland is subject to extensive use of the form. Associated management constraints (at the time of the first lift and pasture botanical composition of pastures) in terms of animal performance are investigated. In experiments with grazing cattle (steers and Milchkuhfärsen) the relationships between plant population trends, food availability and selective grazing forage consumption are analyzed. The live weight of animals, and carcass traits selected parameters provide information on animal performance. In a complementary project (03OE388), which is paid by the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, is the nutritional assessment of the growing crop from extensive grassland management. Overall, the results from the two related projects at the University of Halle joined and derived management recommendations for the management of grassland ecological used with beef cattle and dairy heifers.
