Use of animal feed (silage, ryegrass, Jerusalem artichokes and turnips) in the growing season in the year-round outdoor rearing of pigs (continuation of the project 02OE449 but only in part of range)
Project
Project code: 2803OE407
Contract period: 01.01.2006
- 30.09.2008
Budget: 132,886 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Given limited food acquisition opportunities and with an eye on the ultimate goal of a largely self-contained internal nutrient cycle, it is use in organic pig farming is important to a very high proportion of in-house feed for nutrient supply. In addition, the guidelines stipulate under organic cultivation in pig feeding, the daily production of roughage. The aim of this project is to specify the feed intake of pigs as a function of forage supply and its utilization. In addition, it examines whether the proportion of organically bound nitrogen through faeces feedstuffs (reducing emission losses) may be increased. The quantification of the feed and ground based by the pigs by means of a tracer method. In addition, parameters for animal health and carcass quality are included. From the results, recommendations for optimization of resource use and diet formulation for pigs free-range are derived.
