Purpose of research: Experimental development

'The objective of the project is the development of principle for crop throughput determination and foreign object detection in a self propelled forage harvester. This should be based on the employment of x-rays. The project will be carried out by three partners. The work of the partners will be split based on the individual expertise and done in parallel. The first focus of the proposer will be the development and construction of a test rig which will be employed for testing the newly developed detection system based on x-rays. As soon as the test rig is completed, experiments on crop throughput measurements will take place and the gathered data will be analyzed. Afterwards the test rig will be modified for the tests on foreign object detection. Next, the experiments on foreign object detection will be carried out and the gained data will be evaluated. Then the system will be installed in self propelled forage harvester and tested in the field (grass and maize). Finally, the field data will be analyzed, the system will be evaluated and conclusions for the development of a prototype will be drawn. '
