Project code: FLI-INNT-08-21
Contract period: 01.10.2005 - 31.10.2009
Purpose of research: Applied research

Test the hypothesis that the procedure for enzymatic digestion as worked out in the paper of Langeveld et al. (2003) is effective in removing infectivity (preferably at least 5 orders of magnitude) from bovine brain stem material infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). Since the digestion is preceded by an essential pretreatment of heating at 115 oC the effect of this pretreatment will also be measured. Titers will be determined by end-point titration. Transgenic mice with boPrP gene (boTgXV, Buschmann et al. 2000) are suitable for this, since they can reach titers of 8 (10log value).
