Evaluation of the benefit of using copper while dormancy in connection of the development of an overall strategy to reduce the use of copper

Project

Project code: 2811OE151
Contract period: 09.05.2012 - 30.04.2015
Budget: 34,182 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

The aim of this project is the development and establishment of a copper free plant protection management in practice under particular regard of copper treatments during dormancy, such as treatments against nectria galligena in autumn and winter as well as treatments against apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) before bud break. The trials will be conducted at the research stations ÖON and KOB in the years 2012 till 2015. The effect of treatments with copper-bearing plant protecting agents before budbreak against four different pests shall be tested in organic apple orchards. Trials with the focus on treatments applied before bud break against apple scab will be established in both research stations. Also storage trials with fruits from the scab and sooty blotch trials will be established in both research stations. Fruits of the 1st and 2nd date of harvest will be stored at 2°C over a period of six months. At the ÖON in Jork the effect of treatments applied during leaf fall period against nectria galligena will be tested. At the KOB in Bavendorf the effect of treatments applied before bud break against sooty blotch will be tested.
