Purpose of research: Applied research
The Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forestry (STMELF) has started the action program „Heimisches Eiweißfutter“(„local protein feeding stuff“). The major aims of this program are to raise the amount of local protein feeding stuff and to reduce the imports. The vast majority of imports is soy, which is produced usually outside of Bavaria, Germany and even Europe. Soy is mostly grown overseas. In addition a lot of soy is genetically modified.
As one part of the program this study analyzes the potential of distribution food, originated from animals which are generated with local feed stuff. The analysis includes milk, meat and eggs as well as conventional and organic products. Besides the added values of these special products should be explored. Different correspondent quality systems and certificates are examined. In conclusion recommendations for possible certificate systems should be given, provided is make sense.
