Optimisation of the conventional AIV diagnostic: AIV detection: biochip detection, HI test, antigen rapid test

Project

Project code: 2813101306
Contract period: 01.01.2007 - 31.12.2009
Budget: 307,452 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

Conventional diagnostic methods are indispensable as reference methods in the development of new diagnostic procedures. For the serological investigation of different bird and poultry species the development or validation of available ELISA tests (species-independent competitive ELISAs, H5 and H7 specific tests) is necessary. The following methods should be developed or validated: a)Biochip with monoclonal antibodies as species-independent detection system for the simultaneous detection of antibodies of different specificity (HA, NA). b)Validation of the haemagglutination inhibition test (HI test) for numerous important bird species ('gold standard test'), e.g. for waterfowl and wild birds. c)Rapid methods for the easy detection of influenza antigen based on immunoassays are available from numerous manufacturers. As they are of great practical interest, a detailed investigation of their sensitivity and specificity and the establishment of criteria and recommendations for their use are required
