Differentiation of wireworm species by applying PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
Project
Project code: JKI-EP-08-2213
Contract period: 01.01.2013
- 31.12.2014
Purpose of research: Applied research
Wireworms (Agriotes sp.) - their imagines are the click beetles - are an increasing problem in agriculture. The morphological differentiation is difficult because the mouth tools (mandibels) of the wireworms are not always informative due to signs of wear. A backed PCR detection will be developed to ensure a proper differentiation of the species. Therefore, the distribution of the species in Germany can be determined, and one can react diagnostically properly when new wireworm populations appear.
