Collaborative project: Development, design, building and evaluation of components and machines to place and recover drip irrigation pipes in potato production (Opti-Tropf-Tech) - subproject 1

Project

Project code: 2815500411
Contract period: 01.08.2013 - 31.01.2016
Budget: 180,700 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

In the frame of a joint research project optimized and modular devices to lay and to recover drip tapes have been developed, built and tested. The aim was to reduce the amount of work and to avoid damage of the drip tapes to make the water and energy saving method of drip irrigation of potatoes more attractive to farmers. The placement blades of the new laying device follow the potato row by means of guidance plates and are equipped with a hydraulic down force system. It also has hydraulically folding magazines for the drip tape coils. The time required to lay drip tapes in a potato field could be reduced by 50%. With the newly developed recovery device the drip tapes are lifted, cleaned and recoiled in one pass. The three-row machine is equipped with a totally new control of the drip tape tension on the coil. Also the handling of the drip tape coils has been optimized. Compared to the recovering in two phases the time required for recovering was reduced by 70%. Both devices should become available on the market in autumn 2017.
