"Scientists from the Universities of Göttingen and Rostock investigated application patterns of glyphosate herbicides and effects of glyphosate herbicides on weed populations in arable farming. Part of the project was the development of a resistance test by Plantalyt GmbH to characterize hard-to-control weed biotypes. On the basis of a survey, it was possible to identify types of farm types that differ significantly with regard to the use of glyphosate. The costs that farms would incur when adapting to a glyphosate ban depend on the general conditions. In the best case, companies only incur moderate costs. In less favorable cases, the adjustment costs may exceed 50 euros per hectare. Further work dealt with the responses of weed populations to long-term or repeated use of glyphosate. Monitoring and field trials on the effects of tillage and glyphosate use on plant biodiversity were carried out. Adaptation reactions of weed populations to glyphosate applications were also investigated."
