"For more than 15 years, parasitic wasps have been successfully used to control moths and weevils, helping therefore to reduce insecticide use. In this project, the application was optimized and adapted to the conditions of long-term storage. We assessed data on the phenology of the dried fruit moth Plodia interpunctella and performed laboratory tests to select suitable antagonists. This resulted in the release of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma evanescens euproctidis and the larval parasitoid Habrobracon hebetor. Reduction of pests depended on the building, the temperature and the related developmental time of the pest. To use the parasitoid wasp Lariophagus distinguendus against the granary weevil Sitophilus granarius in long-term storage of cereals, a breeding box was developed, containing substrate, hosts and wasps. Freshly emerged wasps leave the box through special openings to enter into the infested substrate and control weevil larvae."
