Project code: II A-1-F 41-2014.01, REFORDAT-188
Contract period: 01.01.2014 - 30.06.2017
Budget: 523,313 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

The project entails the demonstration and optimisation of selected commercial organic farms and their methods of production as well as professional advice. The project is coordinated and executed by the Institute of Organic Agriculture (IOL) in cooperation with the Chamber of Agriculture in North-Rhine Westphalia and contributes effectively to the boosting of Organic Agriculture in NRW. In the subproject headed by the IOL, several experiments will be conducted in conjunction with other institutes of the ‘Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Bonn. The experiments will further be assessed and evaluated, thus increasing the knowledge under conditions of several sites. In this participatory and interdisciplinary approach of practice, extension service and research, 30 farms and the experimental farm Wiesengut are involved in the development of research questions, the execution of experiments and the demonstration facilities as well as the discussion of experimental results. Useful solutions will be assessed and optimised on farm level, and if suitable, demonstrated at field scale of major farms in order to secure the transfer of knowledge into broad commercial practice. The feasibility of the methods in question will be immediately assessed by practitioners and passed on to colleagues.
