Production processes

Project code: BAZ-IRP-02-2189
Contract period: 01.01.2004 - 31.12.2005
Purpose of research: Applied research

On the basis of mapped molecular markers linked to novel resistance loci against fungal pathogens of barley, PCR markers will be developed and tested for efficient marker-assisted selection procedures. These markers will be integrated into a simple method to improve the selection of plant for disease resistance in the range of the evaluation of genotypes and they will contribute to the extension of the genetic basis. PCR markers are suitable not only for the control and assessment of susceptibility against fungal infections, but are also provided to classify and select the crossing material reliably. The result of this project is important because of the estimation of the breeding progress in terms of improving plant resistance to fungal pathogens. Plant genetic resources will be better and sustainably used because of the development and utilisation of novel pathogen resistances. This project is an essential part of a sustained yield strategy which concentrates on precaution and risk reduction. A minor fungizide application contributes to a sustainable and ecological compatible agriculture.
