Project code: 152
Contract period: 01.01.2014 - 31.12.2014
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

Diaporthe phaseolorum (Phomopsis sojae) is an economically important plant pathogen of soybean (Glycine max). As part of the seed health examination the official analyses are carried out with a microbiological method according to the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA). Thus 400 seeds are incubated and examined microscopically which is very laborious and time-consuming. To support this standard procedure a PCR approach was developed which enables the direct detection of the pathogen in the sample. The new method can be used for screening high numbers of samples with the view that only positive samples have to be confirmed with the ISTA method.
