"The creation of an open product information system for consumers is the goal of this project, promoted by the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. In order to reach the goal of the project the project has developed the three components. The OPDIS project consists of the following components: Open Product Information System (OPDIS Know) During the project time the project team has develop an open product information system – OPDIS Know. This is a server based System which can handle structured and unstructured data. The system can also embed other sources of information and allows the user to query the information. For example the system can handle to get information by barcode. Mobile Framework for App-Development To use information from OPDIS KNOW, simple requests (eg so-called REST requests) can be made to the system. In order to simplify these request and use further functions like a simple barcode-scan, a mobile framework (OPDIS Frame) was developed to help app developer in this area. The mobile framework was develop for Android and iOS Devices. Practical App OPDIS Know and OPDIS Frame build upon each other and can be used to develop different kinds of applications. In practice the offered Framework and server component will only use if a practical app demonstrate the functionality of the components. During the project time the project team has develop two of these apps for Android and iOS. The apps shows in a practical way to use these apps. For example you can scan a product, by his barcode and get the information about the product, the ingredients and ethical information about the company."
