Collaborative project: Development of an innovative, retrofittable module for air conditioning for optimizing stable air quality in pig houses - subproject1
Project
Project code: 28RZ372028
Contract period: 12.03.2015
- 31.08.2018
Budget: 152,697 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is to develop an innovative, retrofittable module for newly built as well as already existing stables. With this module the incoming air will be conditioned in that way, that high incoming air temperatures in summer time as well as high deviations in incoming air temperatures in spring and autumn will be reduced. In consequence of reduced incoming air temperatures higher animal welfare, lower indoor ammonia concentrations as well as lower ammonia emissions can be expected. The air conditioning is based on adiabatic cooling with water as well as on the cooling effect of the ground, in which the module will be sunken. Furthermore the potential of silver ions for hygienisation of the incoming air (killing of microorganism) will be investigated. The efficiency of the innovative module for incoming air cooling will be investigated under technical conditions. The following questions are in focus: Do the air velocity as well as the water amount and water temperature in the module, the temperature of the outside air and the size of the exchanger area have an influence on air temperature and relative humidity of the conditioned air as well as the on the resulting pressure differences between outside air and conditioned air? Thereafter all the acquired results will be implemented on a practical farm (pig house), on which all technical requirement for installing the module will be made. The effect of the module on animal health and animal behaviour as well as ammonia concentrations and emissions will be analysed.
