Joint project: Production and demonstration of the practicality of tractors with engines of emission level TIER 4 in operation with pure plant oil; Sub-project 3: Investigations on the dynamic engine test bed
Project
Project code: 22004312
Contract period: 15.06.2012
- 31.12.2014
Budget: 343,800 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The project addressed the development of a fully functional and practical TIER 4/ EU stage 4 tractor, which can be fuelled with different pure vegetable oils, and its test and demonstration under real operation conditions.
The engine is built on the engine test bed with the necessary measurement technology and put into operation. The aftertreatment system is characterized in operation with diesel and pure plant oil. Besides emissions, cylinder pressure curve and fuel consumption, the impact on the particle filter and the SCR system are examined. Particular attention is given to the particle size and mass. Based on these results, the strategies to soot loading, soot combustion and nitrogen oxide reduction for plant oil operation are optimized. Compliance with the legal emission limits is finally tested.
