Joint project: Production and demonstration of the practicality of tractors with engines of emission level TIER 4 in operation with pure plant oil; Sub-project 2: Fuel analysis, stationary emission measurements and field tests

Project

Project code: 22004212
Contract period: 15.06.2012 - 31.12.2014
Budget: 263,508 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

The project addressed the development of a fully functional and practical TIER 4/ EU stage 4 tractor, which can be fuelled with different pure vegetable oils, and its test and demonstration under real operation conditions. The aim of this sub-project is to perform a field test under real operation conditions for a period of 12 months and the regular monitoring of the tractor through performance and emission tests on tractor test bed. The tractor is equipped for field testing with an online data capture with a remote transmission module, which allows to monitor essential operating data continuously. During the field test, fuel and engine oil are checked by periodic analysis. On tractor test bed power and emissions are measured during the operation of the tractor with diesel and with five different vegetable oils (rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, camelina oil and HO variant of rapeseed oil or sunflower oil). The fuels used are analyzed in terms of their fuel-related properties. In particular, the function of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system is checked. The following emissions are measured: particle (total mass in the clean gas), Limited gaseous emissions HCgesamt, CO and NOx (NO, NO2), non-regulated emissions by means of Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) (NH3, N2O, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, possibly Further, if detectable).
