Project code: 2814802211
Contract period: 01.05.2015 - 30.04.2018
Budget: 90,676 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The aim of the research project "Optiscreen" project was the development of an optical-spectroscopic online method for the detection of mycotoxins on grain using laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy, which can be used in grain sorting plants to reliably detect grain contaminated with mycotoxins. As a result of the investigations, a spectral database as a basis for the application of the optical detection technology could be created, and grain contaminated with mycotoxins (OTA, aflatoxin B1) could be successfully distinguished from fungus-infected and reference samples. The second focus of the project was the development of a method for the detection of hidden fungal contaminations in granaries. The method is based on the detection of microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOC) in the gas phase of the granaries by ion mobility spectrometry. By determining characteristic mVOC markers for individual mold species on grain, it was possible to go beyond the project objective by not only detecting mold infestations but also identifying the fungus.
