Interactions between Pratylenchus spp. and microbes in rhizosphere soil and within host plants
Project
Project code: JKI-EP-08-2224
Contract period: 01.04.2014
- 31.03.2018
Purpose of research: Applied research
Pratylenchus penetrans is one of the most damaging plant-parasitic nematodes in Egypt as well as in Germany. Microorganisms living endophytically or in the rhizosphere of plants have the potential to protect the plant from plant-parasitic nematodes. In this study we focus on studying the interaction between different geographical or pathotype populations of P. penetrans and bacteria / fungi in suppressive and conducive soils and within different host plants in order to suggest biocontrol strategies. Equally important the interaction of Pratylenchus penetrans with Bradyrhizobium japonicum as symbiotic nitrogen - fixing bacterium on soybean will be analyzed.
