On a par: Knowledge transfer between science and practice in organic and sustainable farming and food production (Collaborative project)

Project

Project code: 2814NA023
Contract period: 15.01.2015 - 31.03.2018
Purpose of research: Networks and research co-ordination

FiBL applied a comprehensive approach to fulfil its tasks in the project „Auf Augenhöhe: Wissenstransfer zwischen Forschung und Praxis der ökologischen und nachhaltigen Land- und Lebensmittelwirtschaft“
Initially, stakeholders of all levels dealing with knowledge transfer in the field of organic agriculture and food industry were approached to garner their support and cooperation. After that, the objective was to identify current issues in the context of knowledge communication to address them in a collaborative approach. This initial step was also aimed at promoting networking and the interaction among the stakeholders of the different organizations in a way that will outlast the project duration.
FiBL created guidelines and how-to manuals for the conception and organization of events and for using videos as a method for knowledge transfer; tools that are aimed at promoting network activities were introduced and handouts were developed to communicate the basics for practically relevant and successful knowledge communication and networking.
A conference on knowledge communication was conducted and documented comprehensively. The documentation includes videos, photos, graphic records and the presentations of the lectures, which were published afterwards. The documentation provides a profound insight into current topics in the field of knowledge communication.
During a ten-month training, stakeholders of the organic sector were educated in knowledge management, learning how to develop own projects on optimizing knowledge management in their institutions.
The further development of the V.Ö.P Verbund Ökologische Praxisforschung was also part of the project. The V.Ö.P network is financed and supported by Bioland, Demeter and Naturland and hence will continue operating after the project’s termination. In a study, the conditions for successful farmer participatory research were analyzed and elaborated.
The DLG-Feldtage 2016 and Öko-Feldtage 2017 were also used as a platform for various knowledge transfer events (information booth, lectures, discussions, etc.) targeting the agricultural practitioners.
