Sorghum for biogas: Specification of growing recommendation for the particular conditions in Bavaria
Project
Project code: EW/12/10
Contract period: 01.06.2012
- 31.08.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research
The recent project (June 2012 until May 2015) aims at consolidating and expanding the findings of our previous work on sorghum, and in particular at drafting clear regional specific growing recommendations, at cooperating with sorghum breeders to accelerate the market entrance of early maturing cultivars that suit the German/Bavarian conditions, and at developing economically and ecologically expedient cultivation strategies for sorghum as catch crop following cereals for total plant silage or ryegrass. In doing so, the cultivation strategies are less adjusted to maximum yield but to economic efficiency, to optimum energy balance and to minimum carbon dioxide emission within the value added chain “biogas”.
