Production processes

Project code: N/10/37
Contract period: 01.10.2010 - 31.01.2011
Purpose of research: Applied research

Object of this feasibility study is the approach to transform agricultural biomass (e. g. grass) into basic chemicals like acrylic acid or ethylene carbonate in bio-refineries on a local level. A highly efficient, chemical conversion process in a miniature plant will be developed and evaluated. Potential educts are grass, rye and sugar beet. The process will include disintegration, fermentation and chemical product synthesis and shall proceed in a low maintenance container-plant at the farm site. The use of modular components that are already established on the market will ensure the cost-efficient construction of numerous plants. The underlying idea is to allow CO2-friendly production of platform chemicals in decentralised plants to create attractive local value for farmers.
