Renewable energy sources with flowers: legume-cereal-mixed crops
Project
Project code: EW/13/51
Contract period: 01.08.2013
- 31.12.2016
Purpose of research: Applied research
Flowering crops have gone rare during the recent years. In former times, mixtures of cereals and legumes have been grown for the aim of animal nutrition, supporting pollinating insects by producing pollen and nectar at the same time. As a specific action program for domestically produced, high-protein animal feed, called “Eiweißstrategie”, was approved recently, it seems very interesting to increase cropping again, using the different mixtures as an ecologically valuable biogas substrate as well as for feeding. Despite many positive effects, legume-mixtures unfortunately can`t be recommended this time, because of the high cost of legume-seed. Therefore, the aim of the project is to investigate, weather even mixtures with a lower amount of legume-seed may lead to a well-balanced crop.
