Purpose of research: Basic research
The NRL ensures that the laboratory testing is carried out in an harmonized way, coordinates and optimizes diagnosis on national level, develops and validates new diagnostic systems, provides reference materials, controls the quality of all commercial diagnostic reagents (integration into test licensing and batch release), carries out inter-laboratory comparison tests on a regular base, characterizes virus isolates from Germany and relevant partner countries, acts as consultant for competent authorities with regard to risk assessment and strategy design (where needed).
Performance diagnosis and differential diagnosis, batch release testing of commercial diagnostics, production of reference materials, official statements and risk assessment.
