OPTIMAL - Genetic and Biomarker-based Predictive Breeding of Maize Cultivars
Project code
: 0315958A - 0315958G
Contract period
:
- 2014
Total budget
: 2658958 Euro
Studies in a highly diverse panel of maize inbred lines showed that metabolitprofiles at an early stage of development contain sufficient information to predict the final biomass yield and to achieve a better selection response than with conventional methods (Riedelsheimer et al. 2012). With a focus on the prediction of the hybrid capacity on the basis of genetic markers and biomarker data of the parental lines the main objectives of OPTIMAL are, (1) the basis for an innovative predictive Hybrid approach to create and (2) those with standard breeding strategies (phenotypic selection, prediction the hybrid power by comparing GCA) and to optimize. The project is the continuation of the research project GABI-ENERGY.
