Rodent damage and transmission of rodent-borne zoonotic disease in households in Asian-Pacific territories
Project
Project code: JKI-GF-08-1221
Contract period: 01.10.2017
- 30.09.2019
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Keywords: food security, rodents, epidemiology
Rodents occur in close proximity to human habitation and storage facilities where they consume and contaminate food stuff and pose the risk of disease transmission to humans and live stock. This project aims to develop new cooperation, exchange and joint research in rodents affecting food security and human health in the Asian-Pacific region. Both aspects are considerable obstacles for development but little is known about their interactive impact on human health and nutrition. We will combine research in food security and epidemiology of highly relevant rodent-borne disease in the target region (Asian mainland, large island state, small Pacific island) to provide the knowledge base for appropriate action.
