Project
Project code: MRI-FL-02-1002
Contract period: 01.01.2001
- 31.12.2021
Purpose of research: Applied research
In line with the enhancements of the Community scale for the classification of pig carcasses grading apparatuses were introduced in 1984. For the authorization by the European Commission a calibration test is obligatory to determine the estimation error of the method. The technical safety of the apparatus is tested on a national level via conformity assessment tests under German law. Since 2003 the authorization of grading apparatuses for beef carcasses is permitted in the EU. - In the research program the performance of new grading apparatuses for the estimation of the meat grades is tested in short checks on the spot and scientific dissection trials. According to the results of the trials recommendations concerning the presentation of an application to the Commission are given to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Within the conformity assessment tests under German law those examinations are executed which can not be done by the staff of the National Metrology Institute. The adjustment with the technical developments within the EU take place by the participation in expert groups and scientific projects of the EU.
