Collaborative project: Film former based on the bio-based raw materials lignin and cellulose for microplastic-free cosmetic products (FibioKos)
Project
Project code: 2220HV037A
Contract period: 01.03.2020
- 28.02.2023
Budget: 102,477 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: renewable ressources, film binder, bio-based polymer dispersions
Polymer dispersion are used in cosmetic products for the improvement of long-lastingness on the skin. These polymer dispersions are usually polystyrene/acrylates, polyacrylate or polyurethanes which have film forming properties and due to their water-resistance they improve the waterproofness of cosmetic make-up products significantly. Up to now, there are no bio-based film formers available with the same outstanding properties like the synthetic polymers have. The synthetic polymerdispersions are not biodegradable and are persistant. Therefore, they can be found as microplastic particles in the nature. The rising problem of microplastic emmision in the world is ongoing and gets supported by the usage of these polymer dispersions, too. The aim of this project is to develop new bio-based raw materials with film-forming properties in order to replace synthetic polymer dispersions in cosmetic products.
