Collaborative project: Development of integrated sensor systems for research and monitoring of bee health and environmental influences - subproject D (Sens4Bee)

Project

Project code: 281C306D19
Contract period: 01.03.2021 - 29.02.2024
Budget: 316,494 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Keywords: bees, prevention, husbandry techniques, production, animal health, sensor technology, animal health, agricultural engineering

The project Sens4Bee intends to use different sensor systems (especially RFID-interfaces for wireless data transmission) to monitor the conditions in beehives as well as individual animals in such a way that a comprehensive new data basis for the analysis of bee welfare in connection with environmental events/parameters can be collected. This will provide research and beekeeping with new analysis possibilities and the basis for a significantly improved bee management. For this purpose, new micro battery technology and energy harvesting approaches will be integrated into the sensor technology already established by the project partners. The data will be implemented in an intelligent cloud solution. In order to make the data available for practical management options in beekeeping, one focus of the R&D project is the development of a concept for the smart processing of the collected data with informative value for different states of the bees. For applied research, the individually collected animal and hive data will be linked to each other and to environmental events in order to improve the assessment of environmental chemicals.
