Multiplex-Real-Time PCR based rapid method for serovar typing and quantification of salmonellae
Project
Project code: BfR-BIOS-08-1335-198
Contract period: 01.04.2009
- 31.12.2010
Purpose of research: Applied research
According to the law of Protection of Infectious Diseases (Infektionsschutzgesetz) salmonellosis is a notifiable infectious disease. It causes gastroenteritis and Salmonella is one of the major bacterial initiator. Salmonella is currently divided in over 2500 serovars. The aim of the project is the development of a rapid and reliable real-time multiplex PCR method for the detection of the most prevalent serovars in humans Enteritidis, Typhimurium, Hadar, Infantis, Virchow. These serovars underlies a special attention in respect to the European control measurements of Salmonella in laying hens (EG No. 1003/2005).To determine the contamination level of salmonellae (independently of the serovar) in food samples a sensitive real-time PCR based quantification method shall be developed. The method should determine the level of contamination especially in poultry meat, pork and eggs.
