Project code: BfR-PRS-08-1322-358
Contract period: 01.04.2008 - 31.12.2008
Purpose of research: Applied research

For genotoxicity testing of chemical ingredients present in cosmetics of commodities such as apparel and others, a variety of toxicological assays have been developed in the past. During the last years the COMET assay was propagated between laboratories. In principle, this assay is suited to investigate different organ tissues or different cell types in a sensitive and reproducible manner. In 2007, the COMET assay has been introduced into our laboratory at BfR as an additional test system for future applications, especially in the field of dermatotoxicoloy. The adaptation and improvement of this approach toward specific requirements in chemical testing in the field of consumer-related products will be continued in 2008.
